I discovered exercise at the right time in life, when I was a teenager. It has always been an important part of my life since. Running and biking were always essential for my wellbeing. Later in life I rediscovered swimming, after I experienced a very bad running injury. For the last 10 years I have been swimming on a regular basis. I also am passionate about skate skiing. However, my skate skiing days have virtually disappeared since I left Alaska in August 2010. There, for six years, I was able to strap on my skis and access trails right outside my front door.
My long-distance running days have also tappered. When I lived in Anchorage, from 2004 through 2010, I would do 12-mile runs up mountains, even in sub-zero weather. Now that I live in Portland, Oregon, I am more than content with the trails of Forest Park and green spaces near my home. Surfing has been become my latest passion. I started surfing in earnest in the fall of 2016, on Oregon’s cold and often stormy coast. I have become a believer in the power of the ocean and the calming effects of the waves on the spirit. I wish I had more time to enjoy it.
These shots are in no particular order. They reflect an important part of who I am and how I stay happy, healthy, and grounded.
